Turn Plastic Bottles Into Useful Cordage

The Grim Workshop Cordage Card is a stainless steel plastic bottle cutter that turns common PET bottles into long, continuous strips. Use the strips for lashings, repairs, camp projects, garden ties, and other jobs where lightweight binding material helps.

The card body measures about 3.37 by 2.12 inches and is made from 0.030 inch, or about 1 mm, stainless steel. Its blade and spacer system lets you cut different strip widths with careful setup and a steady pull.

Very cool! I Purchased all 3 cordage making options. I'll be using them to make 3d printer filament from plastic bottles. I think the default width is a little narrow, fortunately they sell bushings to change the width of the cordage. I'll be buying a few of them next!

works well though even when following all instructions was hard to start rope

I can't get this one to work

Maybe the blade I got was dull? I've tried re-arranging the blade every way but it does not cut at all. I tried honing it on sandpaper too with no effect. I can only get inch long strips of plastic before it jams and I have to restart

This issue is actually a fairly common one with this tool, and it can have a bit of a learning curve. However, I promise it’s worth it once you get the hang of it! Typically, this happens for one of two reasons:

Blade Installation:
The most common issue is that the blade is installed with the bevel side facing up. For this tool, the blade needs to be positioned 'upside down' compared to how blades are typically installed. The edge should not be visible when the blade is installed correctly. This unique positioning causes the bottle to cut downwards instead of upwards, ensuring smooth, continuous material. If the bevel is facing up, the bottle naturally slips off the blade, often resulting in just a few inches of material like what you described.

Starting the Bottle:
When you first start cutting, the tool works to straighten out the edge of the bottle. Sometimes this results in shorter pieces until the bottle’s edge is even. Once the bottom is cut flat, you should start seeing longer, consistent strips.
